Because there is no portage around the Piedmont Dam (upstream of Timmerman Landing) or the Upper Pelzer Mills Dam (downstream of Timmerman Landing), this section is very lake-like and beginner-friendly. Paddlers can travel upstream or downstream, using Timmerman Landing as a start and end point.

Timmerman Landing has a large paved parking lot, handicap-accessible fishing dock, and an ADA-accessible boat ramp. Anderson County Parks and Recreation Department re-opened Timmerman Jr. Kayak Launch in March 2017 and it now features the 2nd ADA-accessible kayak launch along the Saluda River, making this stretch of the Saluda River accessible to all.
