Trip Details

After leaving the landing you will float under two sets of power lines. Keep an eye out for large mammals such as deer feeding in the clearings under the power lines. Be on the lookout for a housing complex built by the original owner of a famous Dillon County business known as South of the Border. The boater will pass another private residence on the south side of the river with a concrete step landing. If you are observant and the water is low, you may see some cultural scenes such as an old yellow school bus in the forest and bridge/ferry pilings in the river. Floyd Dale (Floydale) Bridge Landing will be on the north side of the river.

Paddled on 12/3/2021. River level 5.95 ft Dillon gauge, https://waterdata.usgs.gov/sc/nwis/current/?type=flow, This level is low water. River was open and doable at this level, very shallow in places. Trees and debris in water, occasional submerged snags, a more technical paddle for blackwater with a fair amount of maneuvering around downfall. No portages encountered at this time but this river is constantly changing and new downfall is common.
