Trip Details

At this landing you may notice old bridge pilings crossing the river and at the bridge the channel splits around an island. Both channels are fun to explore. Along this section are remains of both an old railroad and highway bridge. The landing will be on the south side of the river after floating under the Highway 41 Bridge.

Paddled on 12/4/2021. River level 5.95 ft Dillon gauge, https://waterdata.usgs.gov/sc/nwis/current/?type=flow, This level is low water. This section has a lot of debris to be dealt with at this level. One portage encountered but at levels of 7+ ft it would be possible to get over the downfall. The river is constantly changing and new downfall is common. A couple of cut-through channels where the river is abandoning new oxbows, these cut-throughs can be partially clogged with debris and downfall and the current is usually fast going through, boat handling skills are important. For cold weather paddling, this section is not recommended for first time or weak paddlers, summer and hot weather removes some of the risks for weak paddlers, but strainers will still be an issue.
