This is a full day or overnight paddle along the Great Pee Dee River, one of South Carolina's most mighty rivers. In this section, the river starts relatively straight, providing a leisurely float past densely forested banks. After Dunham's Bluff, the river begins to wind and twist around tight bends and large sand bars. This section is a part of the SC Revolutionary Rivers Water Trail and is a State Scenic River.
Parking, boat ramp, and courtesy dock.
Dirt landing with some dedicated parking.
Unlike its neighbors, the Little Pee Dee and the Lynches, the Pee Dee River is a brown water river, with its source far into North Carolina. This trip can be done in a long day, or turned into an overnight. Camping is available on sandbars when the flow allows, or available at some locations with Woodbury Wildlife Management Area and Heritage Preserve, including Dunham Bluff Landing. There are opportunities for hunting, fishing, boating, birding, hiking, biking and wildlife viewing at Woodbury WMA.
A shorter version of this trip can be done by using the Dunham Bluff Landing.
